I drug Christina out with me on Friday night to see the Hawks take on the Blazers. Dave had the other ticket, but I gave him mine and used a voucher I had gotten off the wheel. We met Dave and Quin and Quin’s owl (poor man’s cinco) at the food court. We had a quick dinner then headed for the game. Hawks Merchandise coupons were cheap on the wheel. All three adults ended up with that crap. Our ‘great’ $50 seats were in front of Headlines. They were so good Dave and Quin walked down from the cheap seats to join us.
I was excited to see Jarret Jack, but I had no idea I’d have the pleasure of watching Luke Schensher sit on the bench the whole game. The game progressed in typical Hawks fashion: They jumped out to a big lead, let the blazers take the lead, then lost in OT. We left with about 3 min left in regulation ’cause Christina wasn’t feeling well. She must be alergic to shitt basketball.

Ismail and I caught the 4th Quarter of the Hawks-Mavs game. We knew that we were going to be late because Ismail had a soccer game, but fricking road work on GA-400 at 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon meant that we missed all of the third. When we got there, the Hawks were only down a couple of points. They made a strong push to actually go up by two points; at some point early in the game, the Hawks had been down by 20 pts. However, as is usual in the NBA, the mad dash effort that the Hawks made to get back in the game wore them out and they faltered down the stretch. With about 4 minutes left, the Mavs went on a 10-0 run. Nowitzki, Terry and Howard all had over 26 pts for the Mavs, JT making several key shots in the last few minutes. Josh Smith had a good game for the Hawks according to the stats, but while we were there, he was missing several wide-open looks and not taking it to the hole.
We didn’t get the throwback ‘Nique jersey giveaway for Ismail because we were so late. Also, no spin (closes at the end of the 3rd) and the box office was closed so I couldn’t exchange my final Thrashers ticket voucher. Kind of a wasted trip overall, especially since I only got to see 12 minutes of basketball.

Did anyone go to the Hawks games on 3/13 (Sixers), 3/19 (Kings) and Heat (3/21)?

With the destination of New Orleans this year for the NCAA first and second round viewings, anticipation was high for a treacherous experience. Stephen, Dave and I went in a day early so we could get things started by watching the Thursday games while getting a feel for the city post-’trina. Stephen was supposed to secure a good sports bar while he was down for Mardi Gras but he was too busy collecting beads to accomplish his mission. He did have pull at the Hampton Inn as we were able to check in around 11:30 in the morning and the rooms were surprisingly spacious. After checking in, we found a sports bar that Francis, Caz’s brother, recommended called Kabee’s. After ordering a pitcher, we decided to get some apps, or “snacks” as Dave would call them, to hold us over until we ordered lunch later. Dave picked out the nachos and I suggested we also try the Chili Cheese Nachos. Thank goodness we didn’t leave the ordering solely to Dave as the Chili Cheese Nachos were much better than the solitary Nachos, which were basically chips and salsa. Either way, both were pretty bad. We were surprised when our sweaty waiter brought us another order of both saying the kitchen must have messed up on the ticket. Naturally we accepted them and did not order lunch. The games were pretty boring although Davidson/Maryland kept our interest for awhile.
We picked up a twelve pack on the way back to the hotel and took a nap shortly thereafter while watching games. I’ll let either Dave or Stephen take it from here to cover the rest of the day….

The Hawks extended their winning streak to three games, moving farther and farther from any possibility of getting a top 3 spot. Of course, most people thought that with Joe out of the lineup, it was a given that we’d be heading in that direction, but the Hawks can never do anything right, hence the 3-0 record in his absence.
Dave, Quin, Janet, Ismail, Olivia (her first sporting event) and I went to the game on free tickets through my dad’s work. We had great seats on the second row of the upper deck behind the Hawks bench, but the damn drummers were in our section so we moved to the opposite end of the court.
Webster was on hand, decked out in all yellow outfit. Probably a gift from Alex Karras.
The game was one of the better games of the year; the Hawks started strong, then went down by 9-10 points, battled back in the third and finally held the lead down the stetch to win the game. KG did his thing for the Wolves, scoring 31 points, adding 11 Rebounds and 5 assists, but the Hawks were able to shut the rest of the team down. Josh Smith played a monster game on offense, scoring a career high 32 points. Zaza had 15 pts and 14 rebs and Salim hit some huge shots late in the 4th to put the game away. I’m sure Woody will reward him by not playing him at all vs. Philly on Tuesday.
The Spin: Thrashers voucher for me, the first decent prize i’ve picked up in nearly 6 games. Janet got a free drink coupon. Dave received the Booby Prize- the dreaded Team Coupon. Dave, did you get your two hats yet?

I’ve had it with this team-the coaching, the management, the ownership. Another game slips away because we lack the personnel to contend for 48 minutes and Woodson did everything in his power to throw away the game. There’s simply no excuse for losing a 15 point lead late in the third quarter so that by the end of the game we had to hit a 3 pt. shot just to send it into OT. Marbury lit us up for 37. Why in God’s name didn’t he put Anthony Johnson in the game to body him up and prevent him from driving to the hole? Instead, he had J-Chill and J.Smith guarding him, getting beat off the dribble every time. Why are big forwards guarding a quick PG? I understand that they are good defenders, but that’s a retarded assumption to assume that they could keep up with Stephon.
The Knicks fans were really pissing me off. Go back to NY if you love your shit city and your shit sports teams so much. You’re not wanted here, you neo-carpetbaggers.
Speedy Claxton statues were the only consolation of the night, just one small step up from getting a free Hawks Coozie off the Spin. I was able to scavenge a Statue for Al, Mike, Steve and Dave after the game because the Hawks had run out of them by the time the guys entered the gates. A lot of people left them behind underneath their seats; maybe it was a protest of Billy’s terrible managerial decisions.
