Call of the Day

This is a pure distant memory call but here it goes:

 Tina Shuford and Benazir Bhutto.

Lang’s gonna hook up the tickets, so who’s in?

  • This is a big game tonight- a win over the Heat puts us over .500 for the first time in ages.

  • Thrashers v. Tampon Bay

Ismail and I went to the Thrashers game last night. It was a last minute decision as Ismail was still a little sick and didn’t want to go at first. However, we had tickets in the 100 level section, so we didn’t want them to go to waste. We decided to have Janet drive us to the game and pick us up so that Ismail didn’t have to walk too much.

I’m glad that we went because not only did we have seats 19 rows back from the ice, we also got to see the Thrashers destroy the Lightning 6-2. I think that this was easily the most dominant that the team has played this season. It was a crucial game as well because TB was two points ahead of us in the standings, but now we’re tied for 2nd place. Individually, Kovy scored on a breakaway to score his league-leading 27th goal of the season.

The spin: Thrashers Spirit Item (Keychain); just missed the Hawks ticket voucher as the clicker just pushed over the peg to the Spirit Item.

    Hawks v Jazz - 12/17

Good game.  The Hawks were competitive throughtout and took over in the 4th.  They were up 10 with two minutes left.  Christina wanted to leave so we started making our way out of the arena.  By the time we got to the exit, I checked on of the TVs in a concession stand.  I got to see the Hawks, up 7 w/ <1 min, foul one of the Jazz on a three point shot.  ‘Oh well,’ I thought, they’re still up four even if he hits all the free throws.  When we got to the car and turned on the radio, I got to hear the hawks, up 3 with like 15 sec left, turn over the ball.  The Jazz tried a three to tie, but missed.  It was nothing but jazz fouling Hawks the rest of the way to a win.  According to the guys on the radio, The Hawks haven’t been at .500 this late in the season since ‘99.  When is the collapse coming?

  • Line of the Day

From the Guardian about my soccer team, FC Bayern:

“Bayern will still win it, of course, mainly because Bremen are more open at the back than a diarrhoeic humpback whale.”

    Ew.

  • Thoughts on Falcons-Bucs

What a painful game to watch, especially losing by that wide of a margin to Tampon Bay. I realize that a lot went on this week, but the team looked totally unprepared.

Do we take a QB in the next draft or do we make a trade? The problem with drafting a QB is that we have to wait 2-3 years to get them ready.

So, Cowher and Parcells both said no-can’t really blame them. Bring back June Jones! j/k

A sad state of affairs that even usurps the dark days of the franchise during our youth. It all seems hopeless…

Ismail was sick, so we didn’t go to the game last night. I watched the game on TV and was impressed with the way the team bounced back after getting overwhelmed the night before in Detroit. The Hawks dominated the Bobcats from start to finish and never really had any major meltdowns allowing Carolina to get back into the game. The most evident thing about the Hawks was their hustle-they were really playing aggressive defensively and getting on the floor for loose balls. Offensively, they were taking it to the hole instead of settling for jumpshots. I wish the team could turn the corner and bring this sort of intensity to the floor every night instead of 66% of the time.

Utah and Miami at home this week-it should be a good test of our seemingly positive improvement.
