Ron Gant made the ballot! Funny to see that guys like Jesse Orosco, Jay Bell and Dan Plesac made the ballot. There’s always a few players that inexplicably make the list every year.
The only real new addition that stands a chance of getting any real votes would be Rickey Henderson. However, I don’t think that he’ll get enough to get in. Rice, Dawson and Blyleven are the three candidates that got pretty close last year.
C’mon writers, give Murph some respect!

You don’t think Henderson will get in? He’s the best leadoff hitter in history. I think he’s a first ballot for sure.
I wouldn’t disagree that he’s one of the best, if not the best, leadoff hitter in history. However, I don’t think that the writers cared for his selfish attitude. Plus, I think that the way that he dragged out his career at the end didn’t help. I think that he could get voted in on the first ballot, but it will probably be pretty close to the 75% mark if he does get elected.
Players that were eligible for the ballot but not put on it:
Steve Avery, Jason Bere, Mike Bordick, John Burkett, Omar Daal, Joe Girardi, Mark Guthrie, Joey Hamilton, Bill Haselman, Darren Holmes, Trenidad Hubbard, Todd Hundley, Brian L. Hunter, Félix José, Chad Kreuter, Graeme Lloyd, Keith Lockhart, Albie Lopez, Pat Mahomes, Al Martin, Orlando Merced, Charles Nagy, Denny Neagle, Troy O’Leary, Lance Painter, Dean Palmer, Craig Paquette, Tom Prince, Jeff Reboulet, Rick Reed, Rich Rodriguez, Terry Shumpert, Luis Sojo, Dave Veres, Matt Walbeck, Mike Williams and Kevin Young.
Lots of former Braves.
A voter can vote for up to ten candidates. If I had a vote, i’d vote for:
Harold Baines
Andre Dawson
Dale Murphy
Rickey Henderson
Lee Smith
Bert Blyleven
Tommy John
Dave Parker
